Create or Join a Room
- Enter a nickname so your partner sees who is talking (optional, not tied to any account).
- Tap Create room. TalkWay shows a six-character code. Grant the microphone permission when asked.
- Share the code with your riding partner (in person, by message, or a call).
- Your partner enters the code under or join with code and taps Join room.
- You are connected. Talk hands-free; the line stays open both ways until someone leaves.
Set everything up before you start riding, and keep at least one ear free so you stay aware of traffic.
Common Questions
It says I appear to be offline, or the call will not connect
Check that your device has a working internet connection. Both riders must use the exact same room code, and the code expires if a room sits unused for a while, so create a fresh room and share the new code. Tap Try again on the error screen to retry.
My partner cannot hear me
Make sure you granted the microphone permission. On the Start screen you should see "Microphone ready"; if it asks for access, tap Grant microphone access. If it is blocked, enable the microphone for TalkWay in your device settings, then return to the app. Check that you are not muted during the call.
My music gets quieter when I talk on a Bluetooth headset
This is a hardware limitation of classic Bluetooth headsets: while the microphone is active they switch to the lower-quality call-audio profile, so music dips. Open-ear and wired setups avoid this. You can also choose how TalkWay coexists with music (mix, duck, or voice-only) under Audio behavior.
Does TalkWay use my camera or record me?
No. The camera is never requested, and your voice is streamed live to the one other rider only. It is never recorded, written to disk, or stored. See our Privacy Policy.
The session ended on its own during a long ride
The operating system can reclaim background apps under memory pressure or aggressive battery saving, which may end a session. Keep TalkWay allowed to run in the background and exclude it from battery optimization in your device settings, then create a new room to continue.
